March is National Athletic Training Month.
Please join us in recognizing the Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) employed by CFPSM. Our athletic trainers are a crucial part of our team in the family practice & sports medicine setting. They collaborate with our providers to optimize the activity of patients by specializing in the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment and functional limitations. They are licensed to practice by the North Carolina Board of Athletic Training Examiners.
CFPSM’s athletic trainers are:
Lindsay Bray
Jude Carr*
Brian Clement
James Davis
Dan Fitzgerald
Janna Fonseca
Jennifer Germain*
Megan Gibson
Kristen Phillips
*also a Physician Assistant, Certified
Our athletic trainers function as physician extenders and help improve productivity, patient outcomes, and patient satisfaction. Some of the services that our athletic trainers provide are: individualized home exercise program development & instruction, cast/splint application & removal, suture & staple removal, crutch & gait training, durable medical equipment fitting & bracing, concussion assessment & management, and outside event coverage.
All of our athletic trainers have received their Bachelor’s of Science Degree from an accredited four-year university, and the majority completed a Post-Graduate Master’s Degree. All of our athletic trainers are CPR & AED certified. Many have had their work published in national journals and have presented their work at various medical meetings.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the certified athletic trainers of Wake County for all of their hard work and dedication in the care and prevention of athletic related injury and illnesses among our community’s athletes.
Many people have suffered an injury as a result of participation in sports and it is very likely that an athletic trainer was there to get them back on the road to recovery, quickly and safely.
