Dr. Hagar Elgendy is originally from Alexandria, Egypt.  She was a competitive swimmer earning seven national titles and representing Egypt at the Olympic Trials. She swam Division I at the University of Miami and earned a master’s in neuroscience from Tulane University, where she helped launch The Trust (an NFL post-retirement care program) and co-developed the school’s first research-based neuroscience course. She attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati and her residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UNC, where she served as Chief Resident and President of the House Staff Council. She is a Gold Humanism and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society awardee.

Dr. Elgendy serves as Vice President and Chair of Community Outreach for the NFL Wives Association. She and her husband, Cedric Peerman, run a nonprofit NFL FLAG league in the Triangle area, using sport to build community and character in youth. Together, they are raising five children—Emmaus, Ava, Isabelle, Elias, and Eysah—and are devoted to faith, service, and family.

Dr. Elgendy is a UNC Sports Medicine Fellow that will be rotating with CFPSM during the 2025-2026 academic year.
