Dr. Patel was born and raised in Middlesboro, Kentucky and grew up an avid fan of basketball and tennis but his all-time passion will always be table tennis. After completing his undergraduate studies at Emory University, he worked as a clinical research assistant at the University of Kentucky in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences. His research focused on the relationship of hip biomechanics and core strength in the rehabilitation of ACL Injuries. He completed medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine – Georgia Campus followed by residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of North Carolina. Throughout residency, he provided sideline medical coverage for Chapel Hill High school football, wrestling, and men’s and women’s basketball. In his last year of residency, he served as Chief Resident and was awarded “Team Player of the Year” and “Resident of the Year” by his fellow PM&R residents and faculty. Outside of work, Dr. Patel and his wife, Puja, enjoy hiking, running, tennis, table tennis, and basketball.
