Dr. Gavankar is a native of Kansas City Missouri where he attended Kansas City school of Medicine and Biosciences. He graduated with honors and went on to complete his internship at Ohio University, Grandview Hospital in Dayton Ohio. His initial interest led him towards a surgical subspecialty where he completed 2 years of Neurological surgery. After coming to the realization that he loved general medicine and wanted to treat the entire family for all their medical needs, Dr. Gavankar left Neurosurgery for Family Medicine. He finished his Family Medicine residency at Ohio University and went on to complete a Sports Medicine fellowship at Horizon Orthopedic in Cleveland Ohio.
Dr. Gavankar along with Drs. Blount and Stevens formed Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine. He is the team physician for Athens Drive High School. Dr. Gavankar is also the assistant physician for the Carolina Ballet. He sits on the medical advisory board for Sun Tech Medical and is a board member of the Copernicus Group, an independent review board.
Dr. Gavankar is married to Tricia Gavankar and has a young daughter, Marysa. He enjoys spending time with his family, art, music, and sports.
